THE TIME TO LIGHT LAMPS OF WISDOM

Dear Readers,

Since Diwali is the festival of lights, candles and lanterns are very important to have in every household.  The flame is a symbol of an illuminated mind.  Diwali signifies “the awareness of the inner light”. It is the assertion that there is something beyond the physical body and mind which is pure, infinite, and eternal, called the Atma or Soul. Diwali is an occasion to realize and know this inner light, which outshines all darkness, removes all obstacles, and dispels all ignorance. Diwali is considered an especially auspicious time for starting new things and hence it is good to burn our negative emotions and start a healthy and happy life.

Chakrapani Ayurveda Family wishes all our readers a very happy, safe and enlightening Diwali. Let us implement the principles of Ayurveda in our lives by enlightening our mind this Diwali for a healthy and prosperous life.

Enjoy reading and get benefited with Ayurveda.

LORD DHANVANTARI

Lord Dhanvantari is worshipped as the father of Ayurveda. On seeing humanity so afflicted by pain and disease, Lord Dhanvantari descended into the material world to teach Ayurveda to the human race. He is a form of Lord Vishnu and he passed the knowledge of Ayurveda to the sages. Though he taught the science of Ayurveda to the sages, the Dhanvantari school of Ayurveda was specialized in surgery.

It is written in the scriptures that, “One who remembers the name of Dhanvantari can be released from all disease.” Lord Dhanvantari is worshipped as the God of Medicine.

THE EMERGENCE OF LORD DHANVANTARI AND ITS SIGNIFICANCE

Lord Dhanvantari emerged in his divine form holding the Amrita Kalasa-the pot of nectar, during the famous mythological incident of Samudra Manthana i.e. churning of the ocean of milk to obtain the nectar of eternity. He is entitled as the God of Health by Ayurveda.

The emergence of the nectar of eternity along with Lord Dhanvantari, who represents health – from the Ksheera Samudra(Ocean of milk) was possible only after the prolonged and sincere act of churning. This incident indicates that the treasure of health and happiness lies hidden deep in all of us. We can churn its essence out and enjoy its benefits only when we realize the values of being healthy. This can be achieved by following a disciplined lane of approach towards our food habits, behavioral patterns, moral ethics we follow and life style. Good health can also be obtained by following the instructions and advices preached in Ayurveda towards achieving a better quality and quantum of life and of course by worshiping Lord Dhanvantari.

DHANVANTARI JAYANTI-THE FIRST OF DIWALI

Diwali is a 5 day festival of light celebrated all over India. Diwali celebrations in India are similar to Christmas and Hanukkah festivities in the west.  There are actually five days of celebration, with Diwali.

The first day of Diwali is Dhanvantari Trayodasi, when Lord Dhanvantari appeared, delivering Ayurvedic medicine for mankind. This day is considered to be the birthday of Dhanvantari – the God of Ayurveda or the Physician of Gods, and celebrated as Dhanvantari Jayanti.

This day marks the beginning of Diwali celebrations. On this day, lamps are lit all night in reverence to the Lord Yama – the God of Death and this is supposed to protect people from untimely death.

AYURVEDA AND DIWALI

The core philosophy of Ayurveda is to clean the body, mind and senses and realize that ‘I am soul’. All ancient Ayurvedic texts ultimately aim at cleansing not only the physical, but also the subtle, that is, the sub-conscious mind (chitta). In this festive season, we urge you to utilize the knowledge engrained in ancient Ayurvedic texts and purify yourself at all levels.

In our fast paced lives, we often forget to clean our body and senses. Our minds too are perpetually over-stimulated with stress, worries and negative thoughts. With the body, mind and senses unclean, it is impossible to realize the soul. That’s why, even though many of us are trying to find peace by meditating or chanting mantras, we still do not feel that joy in our lives.

This Diwali, let’s not only clean, decorate and light our houses, but learn this simple method of cleansing and realizing our inner light by illuminating our mind this Diwali. Let’s take the pledge to make Ayurveda a part of our lives… forever….This Diwali let us pray and feel grateful – let there be prosperity in every corner of the world – let all people experience love, joy and abundance in their lives.

BURN YOUR NEGATIVE EMOTIONS ALONG WITH BURNING CRACKERS

Charaka has explained nine main emotional streams (Dharaniya vegas or Suppressible urges) namely, Lobha (Greed), Shoka (Feeling of sadness due to loss of material & temporary things), Bhaya (Fear), Kama (Excessive Desire), Krodha (Anger), Moha (Excessive Attachment), Mada (Pride), Matsarya (Envy) Irsha (Possessive nature), Dvesha (Hatred). The control over them makes the character of a human.

Whatever negativity – anger, jealousy or fear – has accumulated in your mind in the last one year should get dissolved in the form of all the crackers. With each cracker, burst any negativity you may have for any person and when all the negativity or ill feelings are gone out with those crackers, become friendly with all. There is a feeling of lightness, love, peace and happiness, and celebrate Diwali. This is only true Diwali, by bursting crackers burn the bad qualities of oneself.
